Papiamentu is the most commonly spoken language in the streets
of Curaçao and Bonaire. Worldwide it is spoken by about 200.000 people only.
Papiamentu is influenced by elements from the English, Spanish, Dutch,
Portuguese and African languages. Though Dutch is still the official language,
Papiamentu is the native language for almost all ethnic groups in Curaçao.
Though still not the official language, much is being done to recognize
Papiamentu and it's use and writing is already standardized.

For centuries many books have been written in Papiamentu.
